Recommendations for Gemini Cup

Minimum Stamina Front Runner Pace Chaser Late Surger End Closer
2 Golds 860 1020 900 920
3 Golds 640 760 690 710
1 Gold w/ 800 Speed 1020 1180 1060 1050
  • These were calculated with the umalator at 1200/800 Speed/Power + Long and Turf S
  • JP calculators give +100 required, with major JP mechanics turned off, though they may have different track data due to later updates and other updated mechanics (eg Guts’ speed boost)
  • The spreadsheet calculator gives +100 required, but doesn’t account for hills, and if I delete the hills from this track, the umalator’s numbers also go up by ~150. So, the Global calculators basically agree on these numbers
  • Here’s a video going through four different calculators to see what they say: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruuREYUl3M8
  • If you’re paranoid, more Stamina won’t hurt you. I’m aiming as close to 1200/1200 as I can get, but for consistency rather than not trusting the calculations.
  • Keep in mind the Recovery Consistency, as this chart assumes they activate, and at good times.
  • Straight recoveries like Cooldown and Breath activate well about 60% of the time, but you don’t really have better options, aside from getting +300 more Stamina instead.

In general, you will need a lot of stamina. Umas with recoveries built in are more valuable, and your deck is probably always going to include Creek and McQueen, maybe you even experiment with running Vodka. The recovery from Rice is useless. Urara’s and Iron Will, maybe on Ends, but I wouldn’t count on it. Also since I’ve heard some people saying it: No, Turf S is not better than Long S.

Stamina is EXTRA IMPORTANT this time around. Straightaway Spurt ONLY triggers if you have enough stamina. Don’t be borderline, especially on your End Closers.

I also made a video guide for this, which you can find here. Let me know if you want me to do more of those. They’re a lot of work and hard to update, but if people like them maybe I can find the time.

Recommended Team: Daiwa/McQueen + your two favourite End Closers. Narita Taishin is the strongest uma for this track, but I imagine most people don’t have her. The inconsistency with the recoveries means having a backup ace is helpful. I talk about my own team planning in this video.

You can bring a proper Front to counter people bringing Urara, but an Urara being in the race is not detrimental to you for the most part, so there’s no real need. Even if you bring a Front, Sleeping Lion is still ruined, so even Taishin users don’t get anything out of it.

The mechanics of Position Keep are important on this track because of how unfavoured Front Runners are. If you want a quick crash course on how it works, refer to this video.

Front Runner: Haru Urara Inherit: Seiun Sky, Smart Falcon, Mejiro McQueen You shouldn’t be bringing a Front to this race. But, because of that, the door is open for people to bring Front Uraras. This has two purposes:

First, if there’s no Front in the race other than Urara, she will fall so far behind that all the other umas get confused, because the Front is supposed to dictate the pace. The result of this is every uma slowing down a bit due to thinking they’re too far ahead, and this action leads to everyone conserving about a gold recovery’s worth of stamina. If you build your team around this gamble, you can skimp on Stamina a little, but of course if someone does bring a Front anyway you’ll be screwed.

The other is that this ruins Taishin’s Sleeping Lion recovery, which requires her to be near the back of the pack. This can be considered a targeted debuff against her, and she’s the strongest uma on the track, but you might not see a lot of them. She came out between the Kita and Creek banners, after all. Put End Closer debuffs on your Urara to strengthen the effect and hit the other umas too.

Pace Chaser: Daiwa Scarlet, Mejiro McQueen Inherit: Seiun Sky, Smart Falcon, Mejiro McQueen Now, again, because Fronts aren’t recommended, there’s a high chance there won’t be any in the race. If there’s a Pace with no Fronts, the Pace will take the job of the Front, widening the lead while still having their Pace stats, which is a big advantage and probably their only hope of winning. So, you want your Pace Chasers to be capable when they’re the lead uma. Look at their uniques and find ones that activate even in first, while having a gold recovery built in. Pick either a Pace or Front Urara, don’t do both. Urara will prevent your Pace from acting as a Front, so they are mutually exclusive. You can run Urara as a different style though, if you just want to debuff Taishin.

Late Surger: Oguri Cap, Tokai Teio, Rice, Biwa, Super Creek, Air Groove for Chaser debuffs? Inherit: Tokai Teio, Oguri Cap, Mejiro McQueen Late Surgers don’t have anything going for them on this track, and the lack of frontline umas means even their gambling skills like On Your Left! probably aren’t going to work. So, most of the umas you could run as Late here are Pace umas. Oguri and Teio can ult in second, Rice and Biwa need to pass someone, so if there’s a Pace they can work. You should probably just make any Late into an End when possible.

End Closer: Narita Taishin > Gold Ship, Mayano, Bride Mayano > Everyone Else Inherit: Straightaway Spurt > Symboli Rudolf, Oguri Cap, Tokai Teio, Mejiro McQueen The final spurt starts on a straight, so Encroaching Shadow is very powerful, as is the white, Straightaway Spurt. All your End umas need this skill and they’re the best choice for this track because of it. Note that if you’re bringing an Urara, she will probably make it so the Sleeping Lion recovery doesn’t trigger. Taishin users might want to skip that recovery, or just use it as the backup third recovery. Urara was never a popular strategy on JP, but maybe global players will do it more.

Avoid: Taiki, Maruzensky, umas who accelerate on corners

None of the competitive players yelled at me when I made this tier list so something like this: Bride Mayano’s recovery is Maestro, but if you don’t have Super Creek, that can let you borrow a different card instead. I wonder how consistent Urara’s recovery is here? If everyone’s bringing two End Closers it might not be that bad… It’s probably bad.

Example Uma

This will be my “collection of Mayanos that didn’t get straightaway spurt from inheritance.” Theses ones are 1* Speed 10* Stamina 2* Wit inheritance, with 7* Straightaway Spurt. Two of the runs missed Cooldown in the first year and then I just did no races to fail the run at the fan goal, but other than that these are all consecutive. Nothing from inheritance. No Straightaway Spurt. McQueen didn’t give me Cooldown so I gave up early. I would have stopped here if I didn’t need to finish more runs for the event. Neither McQueen nor Creek finished their chain.
